Afraid to Sleep

Contributed by sir_odd87 on Thursday, 18th January 2007 @ 12:59:12 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

My eyelids grow heavy
I cannot let them close
I'm afraid to travel
Where my mind now often goes

Running, panting, calling you
Growing out of breath
Through an airport, alarms blaring
Making my body deaf

Because of all the bustle
I can't hear my alarm ring
I can't be freed from this terror
Until I've seen the whole thing.

Trapped in this mental airport
Security at my heels
I chase you trying to get back
The one thing I knew was real

You're about to reach your gate
And I make the last ditch effort
Of diving to catch hold of you
So as not to lose you forever

But security has caught up with me
And now pins me to the floor
And I shout out after you
That I'll love you forevermore

Time stands still for a moment
As you turn to face my way
My heart pounds in my head
Waiting to hear what you will say

You stare straight into my eyes
The way you used to, but
Instead of saying you love me too
You call me an idiot.

My eyes open wide, I look around
And find none of it was real
So why is my heart still pounding?
What's this fear I still can feel?

Now I'm awake, I can't go to sleep
I must avoid the pain
I don't think I can take the hurt
Of watching you board that plane.

This is dam' solid writing, with emotions well captured and good progression. The theme truly comes home to the reader. You continue to improve! Keep it up.
