anguished

The demon stood armored in shackles,
this is the guardian of the crossing,
a being of teeth locked in various sizes,
bleeding acid that burns and repairs in unending
cycles of torments.
I stand before him as a murderer,
of the murderer of my wife,
who just went to the store because I needed batteries!
I would rather spend an eternity in darkness
without her.
Turning from flesh to ghost
the cutting, scraping of shackles
drew me to pass on,
eyes without coins.
The Demon Jaw of Lucifer touched me,
its sweat, tearing off my wrists, only to have
them heal and fall off again & again;
It gestured to lead,
head bowed, broken in guilt,
the trigger puller,
shooting over and over,
wrist dripping and repairing,
in pains, unlike anything imaginable.
We began to walk,
the way into hell.
Every step is a syrup of events,
the trudge to move until the shackles tug harder
but slower we traversed,
each inch getting shorter and taking longer.
Starting from the first murder,
yes, among kin,
to each blow ever struck
in death and violence.
One my left creatures of the ocean rip and tear
till on the beach they lived, killing,
eating, defying, forcing natures cooperation
which I could see as a glowing warm and pink.
Yet this gray spine is cold,
beat back by blood and gore;
the demon laughs at the sound of that paring
another notch on the belt of corruption.
On my right played and replayed
my evil of killing in revenge.
Each second:
the gun loaded,
the stalking,
coming round the corner,
firing upon 13 in a group
of kids, ranging from 12 to 20,
all their faces
involved in the robbery
which took my life on the spot
as they shot back,
all for the soul of my dear wife
recently departed to heaven...
Just then her spirit
wafted in
as a puff of soul smoke taking form and
jangling to stand before the demon:
"Will, what are you doing?" she asks with the concern of a mother staring down upon her children in a sandbox.
"The demon is taking me to hell." As I point my hands rise to drip fingers of steam and diamond studded pain. "But what are you doing here... How? Did God send you to save me?" Feeling a distant wisp of my innocent self swirling in spirals.
"No, Honey, now listen to me carefully." And as she spoke the evil abated a moment. A pristine silence sprung up like a cocoon of protection in my thinking. "I need you to save me?"
"How can I help you?" "Oh horrid and wretched demon this is a ruse, yet another way to torment me?"
"No, No, sweetie shush now, remember when we had pancakes on the veranda and made love all morning covered in preserves?"
"NO, NO, I cant take this! Broken! NO! Don't! Sobbing! Shaking! Shivering in resolve the demon tugs and starts to move onward.
She then whistles our family whistle. The one we used to call the kids and to signal each other to help unload the groceries.
The sweet chime for help or alarm she whistled and sang it, reverberating in the air, it hung about me like a cloak
where my hands no longer melted.
I looked up with tears and said "How...?"
She smiled and said: "The truth about the universe is 'We Create Our Own Reality.' Remember we spoke of this. My family is devout Christian, we met at college and developed our minds and even talked about a moment like this. I agreed to save you from hell which is easy in comparison and some how you knew you were doomed for it." "And you agreed, 'come hell or high water,' you said, to spare me from heaven; that is, if it was true and we laughed till our ribs ached." "Now I can tell you it is but I only have a short time left of residual spirit from that conversation."
"I remember sweet Hope, I remember but how do I defeat the demon?"
She said "Easy, here, let me help."
The demon reached to touch her vile, caustics, steaming to damage, made me cringe and flinch
but she tapped its head and said "See its the alligator wallet you lost on that camping trip, the one you had with the only picture of your dad and all that money remember how long it took us to recover from that and you swore never again would you put all our eggs in one basket and that you would learn how to use the bank."
In that instant of thought and memory the Demon Jaw of Lucifer folded up with the bridge and all that evil ever done and was in my hand shinning in dust.
Pulsing now with a weird mistrust I had felt all my life, about money, wallets and yes even my dad, he had disappeared so unexpectedly from my family.
Crying through tears unfocused the scene changed suddenly I am with my love on the beach where we had our Honeymoon..
She ,smilingly said with a wink, "Now its your turn, I only have a few seconds left."
"When you find me remember Our Love (she begins to fade) as I will surely not remember this and be totally lost in His arms convinced your condemned for what you have done."
"Follow the wispy trail and accept now you are free from hell so you can help me escape the jail of heaven." Her last words diminish to a whisper near my ears as a deeper magnetics began to tug at my soul.
Counting my blessings and staring upward, I began to rise in loves flight, following her fading light, through tears of
realization and bright resolve, my love, my heart saved me and I wish nothing more but to hold Hope in my arms again.
To be Continued...

Wow AJ, Why does this picture look so familiar to me? It really is disturbing. I'm sure I've seen it before. Intense. Of course you know how I feel about the write. This is one great piece of writing, my friend. As intense as that picture. You my brother are one superb writer.
Peace and hugs,

Yang, this is a magnificent write and read and look forward to more! The layout is very inconvenient for the reader in that it requires a constant moving of the screen to accomodate reading the expanse of your layout. Not very relaxed, but huh, but who can relax anyway in such an intense dark and gripping write. Really good work!

Hope & Will, much like Spirit & Ego can always find a way beyond, " Heaven & Hell " once they learn to harmonize...
"...then our fingers intwined like ribbons of light
& we came through a doorway somewhere in the night..." ~G. Lightfoot
This is intense & intriguing, I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in your write!

Details in this write pulled me directly in with you to each word, thought and moment.
Moving me in all directions of thought and feeling. You did well with this, your inspiration surges bringing forth such depth of feeling. I wish I could only express in words, as you so richly do, the entire length and depth of my emotions while reading this.

I must say this is the best I've read from you!
The story itself is very captivating and can only be so because of the clever way you've written it.
Well done sir!!! |

To say how much soul you poured into this write feels like a HUGE understatement, but nonetheless, it's obvious --- wow ! I am immensely impressed, and in awe of your ability to tell a story, and convey a message. Not sure if you've continued this yet, but I will look for it on your account page! Well done!
