Atrocity Prevails

Contributed by Willofree on Tuesday, 16th January 2007 @ 06:41:23 PM in AEST
Topic: anguished

When quiet returns, and dust clears,
the devastation is seen through the blur of our tears.
When the peaceful moment is transformed into agony,
Carnage of innocent people persists.

Where quality of life becomes ruled by fear,
peace becomes but a whisper in our ear.

Is hope still alive, or is that a victim too?
Are differences in ideology the problem?
Perhaps more likely evil reigns,
and subjugates the dark side within.

Where lust for power, wealth and notoriety reside,
love, peace and justice are swept aside.

The answers we perceive as complex.
But not being sure of the way,
is not the barrier to a solution.
Can't we discuss matters without the threat of revolution?

This keeps our goals out of reach,
no matter how much we pray for peace.

Where does it all end?
Is peace and love impossible to accomplish?
We are suddenly jolted out of our revelry,
as another explosion is heard.

No one asks anymore, "What was that noise?"
Yet pandemonium prevails and panic strips us of our poise.

How does one survive in that environment,
when ones' senses are constantly tuned for the next explosion.
This time your family may be among the victims.
What are the odds that there will ever be peace?

With all the fundamental behavioral difficulties,
how do we ever achieve tranquility?

Oh yeah, Will. This was a hit. Really good thoughts and ideas you've penned here.

"How do we ever achieve tranquility?"

It has to just start with genuine love. Maybe some day. Huh?

Good to read you, my friend.
Much peace and hugs,
Laura

I really like the intent of this piece especially the final line.

Between spin and the difference in my opinion atrocity is defection from the way of nature which is cooperation.

Sadly it may take cataclysm and catastrophe to diminish atrocity and even then only when we are unified in singular purpose.

Very Thought Provoking...

Well Done

Peace

sigh...wherever there are people it seems there are those whom crave power and will stop at nothing to attain it. That and diffrences that evoke prejudice are real killers in this world.
It's a shame we can't all find a way to unite...

It's a mad, mad world and I, for one, have no ability to make any real sense of it (of the whole of it, I mean). All I know is this, to your questions posed in this line (a great line, by the way):

Is hope still alive, or is that a victim too?

... I find myself needing to answer yes to the first and no to the second question. And... I'll do so, even, emphatically. To do otherwise, I fear, would leave me unable to sleep at all.

I am so glad I didn't miss out on this post Will... this is a phenomenal piece of work! I love the bold text that make significant lines such as:

Where quality of life becomes ruled by fear,
peace becomes but a whisper in our ear.

^^ That! It hangs in the air and chokes you with the god awful truth. Truly I could pick this apart line by line and comment; it's just that enormous in meaning! I won't though, but I must pluck just one more line:

Is hope still alive, or is that a victim too?

That line slaps the reader, and commands attention. Bravo Will! I can imagine the range of emotions you must've felt writing this out, and the utter helplessness at points, and that would've been enough for many to put the pen down, but you didn't, and I thank you for sharing this.
