Brave Knight
Canto 4 Book 2
Stanzas 2 and 3
Sir knight took seat on wooden oak bench place,
his frame thence close to Morley’s watching eyes.
Stephanus Marcus’ fierce and grave worn face
of happy tidings hope didst nay give rise.
“When sovereign answers suffering Christian cries,
and sails to Ashkelon at solstice days,
then my lord be all wary great of tries
that seek to take duke’s life in wicked ways.
All mischief be then tried in thy king’s garden maze.”
“When James is placed upon the throne at Yule,
as brother sovereign during Laurence’s leave,
then he shall summon thee to Donville rule,
forsooth, there Katharine will greatly grieve.
A deadly skein prince James doth foully weave,
and knights do covet thy Blue Light Of East.
Zounds, Saint Charles most desires gem I believe.
From drunken minds in tower keep from least
to highest they did speak soon after leaving feast."
