From forty years of going unused,
My tongue tastes like a cup of dust.
Its silver surface fully tarnished,
Somehow growing spots of rust.
It flicks off rhythms in cometic periods
When it used to wave like light,
And in my struggle to speak to stars,
I’ve found it hard to sleep at night.
I’ve leased my heart to a garden spider.
As it sits, I hope to die.
Its web fills every gap inside me,
Undisturbed by exercise.
My ears have tuned in to new music,
Like battle hymns of ‘64,
With steady time; invoking heaven,
Lemonade, and my front porch.
And as the seasons breeze on by me,
Comfort fills my every thought.
No excitement, no regrets,
No youthful thrills that I once sought.
And in due time will come my passing,
As the breeze blows through my hair,
But I shan’t notice nor forget.
My ghost will never leave that chair.

Great poem,
Loved it, loved it, loved it
I only hope you are contented rather than spiteful as you age, for one is forward and the other is back |
