Desert and Canyon

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Saturday, 6th January 2007 @ 02:41:04 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

Splendid smells of pinon pine
wafts atop the canyon air
Standing small looking down
way down there
Innumerable colors
painted by nature herself
Mural on the canyon walls
Eyes squint looking for
the carver
Yes the river wild
deep below
she calls

Cool desert so lovely
colorful
and fair
Ancient mysteries
seem to seep through
everywhere
Hidden petroglyphs
on the sandstone
scratched so long ago
Indian ruins
from another time
captured in the moon's glow

Sand and stones
Sagebrush too
Petrified pieces of
once standing woods
Unique vegetation
I've never seen before
Juniper, Saguaro
Creosote too
Beautiful Mother Earth
surrounding
me and you

You brought me to that place:

"...Ancient mysteries
seem to seep through
everywhere..."

The vision your reach for with your poetic pen is far greater than words...

Great Job

Peace
AJ

Laura,

I really enjoy your apprecaition for nature. I praticularly like how you depict nature in this poem. Excellent imagery...one can experience being there with you, I really like you reference to mother nature painting the mural on the canyon wall.

Well done my friend,

[Will

WOW! The imagery is great in this piece! I am right there with you. I also love the way you blended in the rhyme without it being obvious.
From eye to paper you have painted a lovely piece!

Laura,

couldn't pass this one up without a comment. Great descriptions and very respectful without being mushy. Given my trip to NM this October, it fired my adrenalin.

A stunning write Laura, and you've captured it the way I felt it, seeing it through my own eyes.
