To Each U.S. Soldier In Iraq

Contributed by Steeleyes on Thursday, 20th February 2003 @ 09:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

Did you join for this, to kill some kids?
I can't believe you did
Is this what it means to protect your land?
To follow blindly led?

Look at the ones you come to kill
And feel a righteous shame
Your leader has led you all to hell
And he will take the blame

Are you lusting to beat out their brains?
To smear your face in blood?
Are you hungry to hear crunch of bone?
Is it the teaching of your God?

In your mind do you smile to hear
The ring of anguished screams?
Or have you compassion in your heart
For a people and their dreams?

For as you know, innocents will die
And not an easy death
To take a child's life is an ugly thing
To rob them of joyfull breath

Your Lord said 'Do not kill'
He said it very clear
Will you ignore his peaceful words
Pretending not to hear?

You have been sent to shoot and kill
You have been sent to slaughter
Your conscience will rob your soul
As you rob each son and daughter

Of precious life, of Mum and Dad
Of friends and grandfather
Think how YOU will then live on
With your conscience ever after

You are sent to kill and kill again
Until the day is won
Are you very proud a peace to win?
From the barrel of a gun?

So very true but think of those who died on 9-11 thats why were at war!I know two wrongs dont make a right but something has to be done! Its so very sad! So tough for all!

ahhhhhhhhh.... this is true poetry... firstly, it is VERY well written... and, unfortunately, i have to agree with you... however, being a former military person myself, i know that these men and women have no choice but to follow their "leader" else be thrown in the brig... and, as Christina said, there is 9-11 and the countless innocents who die daily in countries with no one to defend them... that being said, again, i have to admit, i agree with your sentiments exactly... excellent prose...

Christina, thank you for your comments. But remember there is no credible evidence at all linking Saddam or Iraq with 9/11. If there is a link with any country it is with Saudi Arabia - Osama bin Laden and more than half the men who were involved were from there.

Best wishes - Peace.

Thank you very much LadyDama. As I said to Christina though Sep 11 was linked to Saudi arabia if any country - not to Saddam and Iraq.

The Iraqi exiles here are mainly NOT for this war. They believe that the Iraqi people can overthrow Saddam but only if they can get strong by the sanctions being lifted.

All the best - Peace. :D
