What is it, do you hear it
That calling on the wind
Silently exiting
And begging to be let in.
The scratching at the door posts
The turnings of the locks,
The clocks chiming silently
As if they know they're lost.
The wind rustling through the rooms
The candles twisting shadows in the night,
Little girls clutching teddy bears,
scared to death with fright.
Monsters under the staircase
Vampires at the door
Lights cutting through the sky
And angels crying "Evermore."
Dawn coming silently
Crashing back the stars,
Taking away the nightmares
And keeping away the harm.
The stars will take their wishes
And their curses just the same,
And the late night fright of midnight
Will slowly melt away.
Adults will watch the shadows
And slowly count to ten,
Praying for absolution
As the night returns again.
The strain to hear the scratchings
And the footsteps down the hall
Silently wondering about the reasons
For it all.
Do you hear it now?
Their voices on the wind?
The begging to be forgiven,
And the crying to be let in???

That's nice. Makes me think of when I was a child. I used to think that if I laid really still that anything or anyone that came into my room wouldn't see me. ;) |
