I’ll call them back next Tuesday
Just to say things are about the same
But I can’t really talk right now though
When I can I’ll let them know
But I really gotta go
You know you gave me everything
Just to watch me runaway
There’s something bitter about what we do
Just so when it’s through
They can say, “We’re so proud of you”
“We’re so proud of you”
Another message in my mailbox
I keep forgetting to make the call
He always says, “You’ll regret when I’m gone”
I doubt he’s wrong
Always right with his wisdom
You know you gave me everything
Just to watch me runaway
There’s something bitter about what we do
Just so when it’s through
They can say, “We’re so proud of you”
“We’re so proud of you”
Home for Christmas and I’m fast asleep
She’s naggin about my dirty clothes
I just throw them on the floor
She can’t pick them up anymore
No baby to be cleaning for
You know you gave me everything
Just to watch me runaway
There’s something bitter about what we do
Just so when it’s through
They can say, “We’re so proud of you”
“We’re so proud of you”
They say we grow up so fast
You turn your back and time flies by
It must be a sight for the ones who knew
That little you
And now have got nothing else to do
Cept say, “We’re so proud of you”
“We’re so proud of you”
