The Dinner Table

Contributed by jyssvw22 on Friday, 29th December 2006 @ 11:51:06 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

If all the hard work goes unnoticed
would that make it less sweet?

when we all gather around the dinner table to eat
passing garlic potatoes and bloody slabs of undercooked meat
talking about cultural labels
while an economy is stable
and remaining in our seats
asking about new events
telling of all the sorrow
and rare joyous moments

We came to feast

the old times are upon us
innocence wrapped in ignorance
the cloak of childhood
a flash of adolescents
mistakes determined in lessons
and obsessions forming cravings
genetics become painstaking
as faults glare through
an assault on a character
who, true, is nothing like
me or you,
ever used to
be

If all these words were spoken too soon
do their secrets still entice?

incite a riot
an emotional outburst
culminating in tears and self inflicted punches
bruises collapse on a swollen right check
as speaking becomes hardened
from the pain which creeps
the right side of the brain leaks
pulsating frequent reminders
obedient survivors
who do anything
to feel alive again

Something needs to change

Something must change

and quick

jyss .. a most interesting and descriptive depiction ..

you know .. I heard it said not long ago .. the holidays
would be much more enjoyable if we didn't have to
spend it with our families .. perhaps it is slightly
cynical, but some truth lies therein.

Excellent post, as usual. Very thought provoking.
(and relatable .. believe me)
