Drowned In Darkness

Faster and faster her heart beats
Unable to inhale the air she needs.
She panics and breaks down
Trying to grab onto someone for help
But none is around.
Alone and scared
Her own mind has betrayed her;
Struggling to ignore the thoughts that infect her
Praying it will soon all end Quickly,
silently losing faith
Wondering if she’ll ever be the same.

Reflecting the past
Why did she have to say yes to that ass…?
It felt so good the second
The weed hit fast.
Addicted so blinded
She only wanted it to last

Day after day she never wanted her high to pass
Far away in her own thoughts, her own world
Where she felt safe at last.
As it slowly numbed her brain
Finally it snapped
Depression and anxiety teamed up and fought back.
Repaying her for the damages of her stupid foolish acts.
The world was no longer a friend
Her worse enemy in fact.

Deteriated she became
By her own infected brain
As if the devil decided to move in and set up camp
Between her eyes and her thoughts
Where perception once happily lived.
Beauty no longer existed in her newfound hell.
People talking she perceived as a fake act
Observing her surrounding
She felt like an actor
Stuck in some movie;
Thoughts convincing her life was surreal
Nothing again ever seemed real

All day and night
Releasing her mournful cries
Staring strangely at the sky
Searching for a God
She prayed still existed.
Months passed as centuries
As she stayed trapped in her darkness
Running from doctor to doctor
Trying to make them stop this.
Telling her its just anxiety
There’s nothing to fear
Give it time, the depression will heal.

Not trusting a single soul
To understand what she feels.
All faith was lost.
Convinced she was ready to end her existence
Ready to escape no one but her self...
She slowly picked up the knife
Believing God would understand
And accept her in to the light;
She cut away at her flesh
Till she bled out her pain
To late realizing she lived

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
