Sing Sweetly

Fate comes tapping on my door, lightly
but with that obnoxious rhythm
masking his intentions with courtesy
His "i told you so" speech, i could tell had been practiced
as it spilled from His mouth
on to my carpet
and all over my face
"i told you so" He said
"they don't call back, and they'll never stay
face it, dreamer, you're better off with Me
I may never make you happy
but I'll always be fair"
i cower in the corner
one that's been stained with my shadow
and i lean my head in to graze
my own skin
i wore your cologne cause i knew
i would be taking your place
i fall coma
into your smile, our night
the one where you said all the right things
at all the right times
and we pointed and laughed
at Mr. Circumstance
because you, Fate, have no part with me
when fortunes sing sweetly in a fool's paradise
