When Smoke Clears

Contributed by merry on Sunday, 24th December 2006 @ 04:18:12 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Was it youth that left me far behind
Standing in a long line
Waiting for another reason to stay here
When the winter wind blows so hard
Against my heart aching for what’s lost

Miles away and so far down on my luck
I tried to look at you but couldn’t see my way clear
To reach out for what I wanted

Is it sunlight that took off without a goodbye
Leaving me bleeding in the dark
Sleeping too much without resting
Dreaming the same dream
Your face before me

Miles away and so far down on my luck
I walked so far but couldn’t find you
Sitting right beside me

Your words keep me company in hours
Stretching out like endless arms
Holding me back from the edge of leaving
Everything I’m sure of
Behind closed doors we pray for more time

Are you standing in the window thinking
About a kiss we shared in another time
Locked up in reverie and sinking
Somewhere in discontent we settle
Not wanting forgiveness

Miles away and so far down on my luck
I’ve stopped trying to dream
Closing my eyes against the longing

Can you keep the soul inside warm enough
To survive the storms swirling around
Wait for me at your favorite spot
I’ll find you when the smoke clears
And nothing can keep us apart
