The Hidden Me

Contributed by Willofree on Tuesday, 19th December 2006 @ 07:06:28 PM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Reflections in the privacy of my mind
Make secure this world of mine
Inward sanctions may suppress
Any overt expression of awareness

Secrets kept
Santioned behavior prevails
Thought recorded for inequity,
So I inhibit myself publicly

When I notice you looking at me,
I cringe at what you might see
That which I am willing to share,
Is carefully guarded, as I am aware

My avoidance of being seen within,
is only a reflection of my inadequacy
Even in private intercession
My insecurity inhibits my expression

My eye contact is a clue
when determining my availability
And unless I know you exceptionally well,
I will climb right back into my shell

Well written. I like that it has a story behind it , as most poems do. I really like how you went into the other persons prespective & wrote it from there. Not from your own prespective, but theres. Nice write.

I don't think only people with "serious" self-esteemed problems face these insecurities you expressed in the poem.
because, I'm quite sure that others can relate with it too.especially--"When I notice/ you looking at me,/ I cringe at what you might see/ That which I am willing to share,/ Is carefully guarded, as I am aware"
I like this poem. Its well written, and there are depths within I'm familiar with.

cheers,
-glass

Oh Wil ..

I think there are many who share this impossibly torturous phobia. I find
it so terribly sad that society has created this "norm" that we all must
seemingly strive for. (What is wrong with us just being who we are afterall?
This is why I think so many of us are anxious, scared and just downright
anti-social, (or seemingly so to those who do not know us.)

In fact .. I have only found out since growing up, that in school, many thought me a snob
because I did not speak until I got to really know a person. It was actually that I was so
painfully shy .. honestly .. people didn't think that someone in the "arts" could be that
shy. But 'tis a sad truth. (And perhaps this is why I am still "undiscovered" lolol) ..

this is wonderful Wil. And I think many shall find comfort and a certain kinship here.

*hugs*

~Breezy
