The Road

Contributed by Jane_Doe on Sunday, 17th December 2006 @ 02:27:05 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Upon my Road of solitude,
of which its length, I know naught,
I march without pause towards a destination
that is hidden by a Cloud of obscurity,
drifting before my footsteps.
It is a Cloud of blindness, of concealment, of mystery
that I follow ceaselessly and mindlessly.
Behind me, I can see all that the Cloud has revealed,
throughout my lonely journey.
And I do not want to look back at the miles that I have abandoned,
nor do I wish to see those which I tread upon at present:
Rocks that make my feet bruise black,
fire that licks them to blisters,
and shards of broken bottles that cut deep into my skin.
Rather, I stare into the Cloud before me, hoping,
praying that my next step, or the one after that,
somewhere along this Road, the ground will become grass,
such as I can recall feeling in brief times before.
But will it even be there?
The Cloud does not relent as I continue my steady pace.
We all walk these Roads with the same ignorance,
only with different grounds beneath our feet
and different lengths before us.
We endure the journey with different outlooks
upon the Past,
the Present,
and the Future.
But, regardless of our reluctance,
when faced with that Cloud, we have to remember
to savour each rock that wounds our feet
and the lengths that we have left behind,
because we never know when the Cloud might uncloak...

...the End of the Road.

A really excelent poem. Life's journey can be long and arduous for some-an easy journey for others. In the end, tomorrow is promised to no one-best to do as well as we can with each moment of life that's presented to us...good or bad.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
