“Now methinks time is right that my duke speak.
Let most distinguished noble say what be
on mind and may friend nay hence play the meek,
but I ask my lord great, what movest thee?
What thine heart holds can no jot trouble me.
Forsooth are we not future kinsmen close
and I do honor father ye will see,
for I will never be son bellicose.
Now I do pray, think ye not I drink calvados.”
Duke Morley rose with blade before him bright.
It rested keen with scabbard shield on deep
rich purple velvet most escutcheoned right
with Morley sign of noble’s castle keep.
“Thank ye, Prince James, for my heart yea doth leap.
Blue Light of East now makes all senses sway.
Damascus steel, Prince, I do know will sweep
the field of rivals seen in battle day.
In faith defend our sovereign’s might befalls what may.”
