Let me wave goodbye to you.
Let me say goodnight to the truth.
As the sun falls out of the sky,
It’s the last night I will wonder why.
Stomp right out of my life,
Through the yard as my soul dies.
Crossing the threshold that I can’t deny,
If I said I could wait, I would lie.
You were my anchor; you were my roots,
You were everything telling me not to choose
Between me and all my pain… and you.
I disappointed you, but in the midst of all my failures
You saw right through.
The tears tucked away on my behalf
Were too much for you to grasp.
You did more than I could ever ask,
So I’ll make it easy and say that’s that.
I won’t forget you, but I have to leave,
I’ll grant your heart that desired reprieve.
Keep me in your heart, not your memories.
I leave because I love you, don’t you see?
