And he said, exhaling,
“She’s a real nice girl. . .
She has a real pretty face
She is.........................
...I began to shout
and like a baseball caught in midair, my words were snatched from the tip of my tongue as I stood
in awe
in sickness
in. De-feat.
He turned towards the door and placed his hand on the knob
His palms were sweaty, as I could see the marks on the tarnished gold
He turned back one last time and
with daggers
murmuring syllables
spitting venom
spelling out my fate
Love always, first Love, exhausted from screaming matches that could bring down the damn city, heavy negativities that outweigh the Good, moving on, New life, different pages, and every cliché word in the English dictionary of break-ups.
And it’s quite alright with me
As long as you can sleep at night
After four long years
And pictures and clothing and laughter filling pages of memories
To be torn, shredded, laid to rest at the hands of a murdered not-so-mutual massacre.
