War of Wars

Contributed by Wesley_Dale_Willis on Wednesday, 19th February 2003 @ 12:40:00 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The death of wars where we are dead,
Where battle raged upon the mud,
Our flag was tattered torn and bled,
Between our death of soil an blood.

The foe in life of breathless sleep,
And silenced death of death it wakes,
I hear my family laugh, and weep,
In war of wars my life it takes.

Where soldiers fall in war must lie,
With loss of breath, and death is near,
Unknown to whom alone and die,
The death of life it kills my fear.

Forgotten memory soldiers face,
To die,and free the freedoms war,
The death of men is not in grace,
Return to home, and fight no more!

Groovy. The little drummer boy would beat the hell out of this.

Please read my "Thank you Uncle Sam" on the same theme.

I lost schoolfriends, relatives and later comrades between 1939 and 1948.

Memories too personal to offer comment on this dramatic well written poem.

Dying is a lonely business, bodies like shapeless bundles of rags stinking in the sun, covered in flies.............
