The diversity of all that lives~
in one truth will eventually share
And the life led in denial of this~
will simply come to that truth unprepared...
It is not of the, "there-after", I speak~
as in religions promises & threats
Nor the oblivion replaced heaven~
on which the atheists have placed their bets...
What it is of, I wish to speak~
lies where any of these by life is met
The single & absolute moment~
in which the meeting of both sides is set...
Contrasting extremes are used to provide~
a basic tool for definable ease
When one is known & the other abstract~
Most of us pick & choose as we please...
But when it comes to the design of death~
it would seem the majority agrees
That this eventuality is somehow made wrong~
when by ones own hand instead of disease...
The, "good book" claims it a most sinful thing~
one that leaves any hope of grace behind
And our judicial system has decreed~
liability is attached & thus fined...
Even loved ones cry about selfishness~
as if their own hasn't made them so blind
It's more than enough for this thirtysomething~
to go get my, "pull the plug" papers signed...
I truely hope my opinion causes no offense, as it was never intended to...it's just that these were things I had to contemplate this year past, because of my own health issues.

Pretty good poem. I was not offended at all. I belive everyone has their own right to choose how they die. Or how they think about it or not.
I did enjoy reading this poem. I've thought about things like this before too. For many reasons, medical or not. Everyone thinks about it some point in time in their life.
Keep writing, I enjoy reading your poetry.

Well done painful read and the last stanza a dilemna, often a sublect in medical dramas the DNR:
"...Even loved ones cry about selfishness~
as if their own hasn't made them so blind
It's more than enough for this thirtysomething~
to go get my, "pull the plug" papers signed..."
You bring the heart and human voice to a tough subject.
Glad Your Here

My first read of your work leaves me very impressed. I had a blind cowboy friend, "Tiny" Carter, whose quality of life was such that my personal and very well received visits to read my poetry to him were one of his final qualities of living. He was a prominent land owner and a well respected cowboy in these parts and his ending days of aging were of a very dependent and vulnerable state. He hung himself with a hangman's noose off a chair in his home in the dignity of solitude and they called it the "crazy" way of a cowboy. I didn't think him crazy at all! This work of yours is a very sensitive and coherent piece of art. Very good.
