The Rat and the Hamster

Contributed by the_cowardly_lion on Friday, 8th December 2006 @ 09:20:48 PM in AEST
Topic: ambiguous

the rat and the hamster

the rat is a lowly, lonely lout
and when ladies see him they often freak out
the only thing going in his limited life
is his limitless freedom to go wherever he likes

the hamster on hand, is a beautiful, cute
cuddly warm creature few will dispute
whose life revolves round the tumble of a cage
her own little show, but not her own little stage

so why does the rat give up the most that he has
to come see her show and hear all that jazz
all the time baring a giggling grin
happy and proud of what shes accomplished within

oh how hes mastered his scrupulous smile
tho she lives in this cage its him in exile
so why does he come back, isnt it clear?
tho they cant be together, they can always be near

The sky and the sea, Narcissus and Echo, this one is in league with the old epics...or at least its reminiscent of them.

Endearing, that's the first word that came to mind upon reading this poem. But I admit the tag line is what caught my interest.
Thanks for the chuckle. :)

What a very creative set of characters!
Although I must admit, I would not
call any of your future lovers a hamster,
no matter how cute and cuddly those
creatures are. Excellent job on this poem,
and great use of metaphors.
