Battle

Once so long ago,
There was a desire,
A desire to grab right
Into a rivulet of warmth,
A desire to snatch at
Everything that I had
Always wanted.

I wanted nothing more
But to splash my feet
Into that rivulet of cool.
Nothing more but to know
Those rocks gracing the
Bottom, more importantly
That special one, that one rock.

Then came the time,
The time for surprise
To flow to understanding.
The hesitation that had,
That has always rooted me,
Sprung loose a fierce passion!
I was ready for any challenge!

Now was the moment,
The time for bravery.
The time when all I would need
Was indefinite courage,
The courage to jump feet first
Into that rivulet of cold.
Fight against all my worst fears.

I had it all planned.
I would jump, feet first
With no hesitation, no terror,
Into that rivulet of cold,
And seize that rock, that
Precious, precious rock
Of opalescent amber.

It was so different from any,
Any other rock that could’ve been.
Surrounded by pale, gray flat rocks,
Was this contrasting rock of amber.
This was a rock to be had,
A rock to be cherished,
A rock to be tenderly loved.

But I had to clutch my fears,
My fears of this cold, cold water.
I had to jump into this river,
Trudging through with no armor.
And grab that rock I wanted so much.
As the time to jump approached,
My fears choked at me.

Could I do it in one try? Yeah.
Could the rock even be caught? Yeah.
Would it be worth the cold? Oh yeah.
I jumped from the precipice,
The brink of fear bitter
Into that cold rivulet.
I swiftly waded out to my rock.

I splashed to a halt where I’d find,
Find that rock of ardor, my necessity.
I stared with utter amazement
Into that rivulet of cool,
At that rock that I needed so much.
I reached into that swift undertow
To capture that rock.

At first try, I had it, but let go,
Let go much too quickly.
At second try, I had it, this time,
This time, I will keep it.
I happily jumped out of that,
Out of that rivulet of warmth
In very high, good humor.

I polished the rock to shine,
I left the rock the way it was,
I slid the rock gently into my pocket,
I carried the rock to my home,
I made the rock a charm for a necklace,
I wear the rock by my bosom and,
I love the rock near my heart.
