While The Lights Are On

Topic: LostLove

What could you be doing
While the lights are on?
Have you started thinking
About what went wrong?

Times we spent together
Not so long ago,
Back in fields of heather,
Where the flowers grow.

Reminiscing back then
About all we did.
Not knowing why or when,
Bitterness we hid.

Thinking towards the future,
And all that could be.
Love we tried to nurture,
How could we not see?

Love then was undying,
But 'twas all for naught.
How come we were lying?
Thinking without thoughts?

Eternal was our love,
Hard as we did try.
What were we thinking of?
It was all a lie.

And so one day you left.
You know, I left, too.
The game we played was theft.
If only we knew.

It's now all in the past,
That much I can say.
Love never was to last,
Not even a day.

The memories remain
Of when we both kissed.
But now it's all so plain;
Love we hadn't missed.

But though our hearts may melt,
It's the truth, because
It's love for us we felt,
That's the way it was.

Loving's what we did well,
Keeping warm at night.
But later our love fell,
It didn't seem right.

We couldn't understand
Our thoughts and feelings.
In front of me you stand
Only while dreaming.

It's over, this I know.
And all that's good must end.
It's time for us to grow.
You remain my friend.

You'll always be with me.
Distances are long.
Sitting under our tree,
Singing our shared song.

About you forgetting,
While the lights are on.
While in bed I'm sleeping,
And the nights are long.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
