Grungy Bird Meets Alice
In a small side street in Jersey,
there's a shop that's dark and bleak.
I wandered in
just a wonderin,
If their things were worth a peek.
I was getting away for some quality time,
had the usual fight with my Alice.
She has a gift
for getting me miffed
And she does it just out of malice.
She's well known as the terror of 'Joisey'
Her temper is known far and wide.
From Poughkeepsie to Boise,
the nag-scold of Jersey,
sadly everyone knows of my bride.
In the window I saw a huge black macaw ?.
glaring its one yellow eye.
Feathers were lacking,
Its beak it was clacking,
while emitting a hoarse evil cry.
The owner appeared from a curtain at rear.
He smiled and nodded his head.
I simply said,
"It was Alice I'd wed"
Nodding knowingly he shed a tear.
I told him my woes, to the challenge he rose.
"I think you should be getting a pet."
I said, "that's a thought,
but with what Alice has bought,
I'm up to my limit in debt."
He gave a "tsk-tsk" and said how he wished,
he could sell me some pet from those stored.
With the money I had
I embarrassedly said,
"ten bucks was all I could afford."
Giving a shrug and his moustache a tug,
"I don't have much here for that money."
Scratching his head,
to the window he led
"All I have is this horrible 'Grungy."
"It's nasty and mean and seldom keeps clean
It skulks and it acts out of malice,
attacks what you ask
violently goes at the task"
"That's perfect "I said, "for my Alice."
With the cage on the floor he opened it's door
The Grungy bird strutted out boldly.
It's one yellow eye glinted,
with meanness it hinted
It glared at us both then most coldly.
''Grungy bird...my cage", he exclaimed,
Saying it really quite that simply !
The Grungy flew into a rage.
tore up that cage,
in remnants it hung there most limply.
"One must be careful", said he "for this grungy will see
any direction it gets as a target
Once you say "my" to this beast,
it's destruction won't cease
till it's torn it up, be careful never to rile it."
I grinned as I thought when she saw what I'd bought
for the usual cussing would follow.
Y' all know how she curses
in both letters and verses
But this time her words won't ring hollow.
"What's that thing ?" she will say in her critical way
"A rare bird they call it a Grungy,"
She'll then rave and rant see?
belabor and taunt. me
She'll go on for a week from Sunday
You see Alice is prone to yell scream and moan
And my Grungy bird she will harass.
Loud curses she'll utter,
expletives right out of the gutter
Snarling, "A Grungy Bird .....MY ***."
