The Lost Poets

Contributed by doug on Monday, 27th November 2006 @ 04:36:53 PM in AEST
Topic: poets

I am a traveler and often my road
will take me to paths forgotten and old
lately I've wandered the trail left behind
and there I uncovered the bones of our kind

They left us their words like old skeletons
that tell us ghost stories of things they had been
I sat in suspense not knowing the fate
of many a poet discovered to late

Sometimes a distance of years since a post
I felt I was seeing the tears of a ghost
and always I wonder what happened to them
might they be living or was it the end?

What frightens , although it intrigues me as well ,
is they were still here when I started my tale
and while I was typing ; they fell to their fate
I wonder if someday you'll find me to late

am I your lost poet
and if so
what has become of me?

I found this amusing, and the very end almost haunting. Yes the ghosts of the poets I agree.....

words are like echoes..they stay in our mind..always seeming to bounce back. I too wonder about some of the fine poets I have read here. Maybe you're thinking of me..
I've been here under so many different names LOL

Yes I too wonder where the writers go. Perhap they sit back quietly just waiting fer something to say about some of the submissions. Or they change their ID and come back as unknown again. Regardless the writes on the site are forever entertaining if nothing else eh?

Good write for a commoningly wondered quiry

I must wonder if you haven't discovered my bones? THis is my first visit since 2005, and I must admit I rediscovered some of my own ghost stories! this is truly a great write though, I really appreciated it!

Very interesting...as you say in your lines when you check the trails behind...all that was left are the bones of our kind.
Do we pick ourselves clean of the meat of our selves...give it all to nourish others or feed others only to be left that skeleton down that road.? Do we get the chance to actually go someplace with our words? Some do and I guess the lost painters suffer much the same journey. Arts just seem to be given so freely and the value never gets paid till the passing of the souls who left it here finally gets discovered.Well done but it is still discouraging news!

Lovely, thought provoking poem.
Talking in general terms people may die or leave or stop writing, but as long as their work still exists they stay alive and strengthened each time someone runs their eyes down the page. If a poem touches someone's heart or soul then their words are helping to keep someone else feeling and experiencing what was written, and in that way the poet is kept alive.
Words and emotions stay with you, and this write has made a profound effect on my mind.
Sorry to ramble on, I hope it makes some sense,

Dom

I honestly know some don't want to be found again. Sadly true. :(

I love the perspective twist there at the end. Kewel.

Thank you for an enjoyable read.

Tim
