Today, I’m lucky to be alive,
But unlucky more so,
Was the driver who didn’t survive,
The paramedics said he died of a stroke,
When only thirty minutes before,
He seemed like a healthy bloke.
The date was 24th November 2006,
The driver just had his nicotine fix,
I could sense something was wrong,
When suddenly we hit the kerb,
I looked through the glass,
We were hurtling towards a Shogun – fast,
The driver was slumped back,
At that point I said ‘Oh ****’,
It was then we hit the Shogun,
And my face smashed into the screen,
Blood went all over my jeans,
I was going to die,
That’s how it seemed,
Someone had dialled 999,
I really thought that this was the Lord’s sign,
Telling me that it was my time,
Then I saw flashing blue lights,
I thought to myself ‘why tonight?’
Ten minutes after, the police arrived,
A sheet was put over the drivers head,
There and then,
He was pronounced dead,
Even now I think about the driver,
Seeing him, talking to him,
Before he died,
But Lord I ask why?
Why did I have to be the one?
To witness his demise,
