The graceful twirling of the sharp white
Flakes landing on my
Palm and melting into a cold pool.
The soft tickle of snowflakes landing
On my lips and cheeks
Everything perfect
Everything beautiful
The stillness of snow.
Not a sound
Until morning
Muddy wet melting
Mixing into the ground to make our
Shoes turn brown
And our feet cold.
The sounds of the day begin:
A dog barking
Cars warming up
The hum of heaters.
Snow makes us children in
Five minute, too short
Too long
Walk from the bus to our houses.
To be ushered inside
Into the warmth
To look at the beautiful world
Through windows
To sleep and grow a day older
While snow melts and we
Are thrust out
Into the harsh world
The unforgiving world
Expected to be adults.

I like how the poem is sad and happy at the same time. It reminds me of when we lived in highland and when you would come over and we would play in the snow until we couldnt walk because our feet were so numb and then my mom would make us hot choclate and we would sit by the wood stove till we were thawed out and it started all over again. It brings back so much. Thanks for that. |
