Endless War

Grief

Endless war is here.
Nothing but pain and fear.
Starvation and hunger
Going on longer and longer.
There's no life, no hope,
Trying their best to cope,
It shows on their faces
And the sadness in their tears,
They'll never forget these years.
Endless war is here.
The conclusion never near.
Men already know their fate,
They'll soon be waiting at that gate.
But is it in vain?
That's the question asked again and again.
It won't be if you can make it
To the end, when it's all over,
When you see the white cliffs of Dover.

Ed, I remember comming home in a York (civilian version o the Lancaster bomber) at the end of my service in the RAF after flying for four and a half years (mostly Spifires) In England and then Malaya. It was June 1948
The Middle East, Malta and France were all brown. but the white cliffs of Dover were the overture to the the most vivid green carpet I had evetr seen.
Thank God I don't have to do this anymore. i thought.
Your Poem conjured up that feeling very well |
