Besides

Contributed by Rakerman1999 on Friday, 17th November 2006 @ 10:46:39 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

' Tis sound advice, I kid you not
To drink of life while it's still hot
Sufficient time when you are old
To safely sup when it is cold.
Don't be afraid to feel the burn
The pain will only help you learn

Besides, a lack of scars wont save
From chill and dampness of the grave.

Now if you follow my advice
The way won't always be so nice
There's rocky paths that you must climb
But really, I wouldn't give a dime
To live and never see the sights
From stony ledge or mountain heights
While fear dictates what I will do

Besides, you're gonna love the view.

Go live your life full speed ahead
God won't object or strike you dead
He gave you freedom of the will..

And 80 some odd years to kill

So take a chance, run the race
With but a little faster pace
It's even money you might win...

Besides, the running keeps you thin !

Tongue in cheek and hand on heart, Larry? Your life sentiments sans gravitas but no less serious, resonate across the hemispheres. Such a descriptive yet smooth construction, and a wonderful triple rhyme scheme. I guess we were given this body to wear out, not wear in, and the chance to be thin again....well I'm hooked!

Hey there Larry I haven't been on here in ages and after reading this it made me realize just how much I missed your writings. This was so beautifully sad, but at the same time triumphant and to top it off it was written with poetic skill that most can only dream of.
Anyway if you want to e-mail me or send me some poems you've written then my e-mail is still the same bobothepimpclown@hotmail.com.
Hope to hear from ya soon!

Peace,
Joel

something to think about; like I don' t have enough!!! why 80..
is this for someone that's only 20? It has to be..add 80 to my age and...well, we won't go there. This was great...thanks.

This is very sound advice you give to your reader. I like your realistic attitude in this poem, not painting the picture of life as always filled with love and daisies. Very eloquently done!
