Why Me?

I am the one who's made fun of
For everything that I do
I am the one always laughed at
I am the one that they choose.
I am the one at the party
Left standing all alone
I am the one who is all dressed up
But I still end up being the joke.
I am the one to tell a funny story
And only one person laughs, I think
Hours later, when everyone's laughing
Someone else is telling the same thing.
I am the one, that when I'm around
No one has a word to say
But, as soon as I walk out the door
Rumors fly, and I hear them the next day.
I am the one who, by family
Is bragged about for "being so nice"
But when I help out, friend or stranger
It's "throw away your money, go ruin your life";
"And don't ask me for any money
Or a ride, or for anything ever"
I thought no good deed went un-noticed
I guess just not in my favor.
I am the one who can sit at a bar
Just drinking and watching TV
When a stranger buys a round for everyone
You guessed it - everyone but me.
Even I was shocked at that one
It's like giving candy to all but one child
That one thing, that one stupid thing
Just about drove me wild.
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong
To make people act this way
But God won't give you anything more than you can handle.
So I'll assume I am stronger than they.

Acknowledgement is essential & I'm sorry for the lack of it you've received, but I'm glad for the remaining spirit that penned this last line, "So I'll assume I am stronger than they." Good for you & consider yourself acknowledged. Good write!

I can totally relate. Some of the situations sound almost exactly the same as ones I've had happen to me. I look at it this way - the one person who did laugh at your story is probably the only one worth knowing!
And I really believe your statement in the last stanza. It's a conclusion I came to a while ago about myself. Nowadays I go out and don't care about anyone. Last nigth I went to a club by myself - leaving my mates at the pub - just to dance. I might have looked odd walking in and dancing by myself for 10mins and leaving again, but I no longer care. Life's too short!
Anyway, sorry.. I tend to drift off like that... I really liked this poem, but feel you shouldn't be too down on yourself about it all. There are some good statements and it flows through the subject well!
Good write!
