A Place for Your Thoughts

Contributed by kidnic on Thursday, 16th November 2006 @ 06:11:08 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Why do all the good days never seem to last,
And you yearn to be complete - to live in the past.
You take great strides in securing your fears
Before they come back to haunt you, spilling your tears.
You've created a construct, a place for your mind,
A place that you're sure no one can find.
In it you put all your worries, thoughts, and your pain,
Misery is one thing; you're just trying to stay sane.
Block out the blight that eats at your life,
Pretend it's not there - dull it with strife.
Live life like past and future don't exist,
It's so incredibly simple, but easily missed.
Finally, upon reaching an instant of clarity
Your heart skips a beat in a flash of insanity.
Realizing you're here, that you've actually made it
Strikes an ugly feeling in the pit of your stomach.
Where is here, and where am I going?
Like a battered up dam, you can't stop it from flowing.
It takes you away into the clouds of indifference...
Which is really just one humongous pretense.
Seen through the fog, all of it seems so far-off;
Everything has the feel of an obnoxious cough.
Laughter and joy, they all fade away;
It all makes you doubt why you even bother to stay.
