Cycle That Never Ends

As I walk down these city streets
Amidst the homeless
The dead and dying
Rich and poor
I look around and wonder to myself
"How did we get to this point in our lives?"
Our government is corrupt
Our economy is in a nosedive
Our children are hooked on drugs
"Why?" we ask ourselves
Maybe we will never know the answer
But as we look deep inside of ourselves, we notice that little shred of darkness
The dark side of our personality that hopes it lasts forever
The part that causes envy and hate toward those that have more than we do
And in that envy and hate, we start to consider, "THEY don't deserve it!"
So we plot and plan to take it all away from them
If we succeed then we are content in the new life we have stolen
We grow accustomed to the autrocities we have commited
Never knowing that when we get what we want, the people below us...now begin to feel that same anger, hate, and envy
The vicious cycle now begins anew
