for Johanna

Topic: dedicatedpoems

close your eyes and dream, little bug
of lollipops and gumdrops
fairy tales where princesses become queens
and all the world is a wondrous playground

tumultuous times make one feel smaller
make one feel insignificant
rip at one's soul
and thrash the sheer essence of being to pieces

think back to a time
(if you can)
when life was as simple as sharing your bible
with a new friend of gold

think on the innocence of a first crush
a first dance
winning that silly game of football
dancing and singing with the pure joy of being alive

little princess
there are bad times and good
sad times and times of great joy and abundance
times of great loss that cannot be mended
and bonds of love that cannot be broken

self hatred and loathing is a part of growing
others cannot pave the way
they can only watch and listen
and diminish the guilt that threatens to destroy you

but hark
look into the faces of those that love you (whether through a photograph or in waking
  dreams)
unconditionally, without prejudice:
an angel Mother who watches from the heavens, witnessing her beautiful daughter
  blossom and grow
a Father who never falters with love and dedication to his child, no matter what
a big Sister who would lay down her life to protect her sibling
a little Sister who's love and affection is so pure and real, the angels cry for her love   for her Sissy
a Brother who, in his own way, admires the strength of his little Sister
another Mother who has never stopped believing in this child gifted to her to help
raise and love as if her own
Grandparents who trust so faithfully in this Grandchild's life that she in fact has
helped preserve and nurture their own
Family that can forget the bad and look to a brighter new day and help this one they
love grow into a beautiful woman
a true Friend of gold... one who shares her friend's grief and happiness... always
there for her friend... whether it's a ride to school or a shoulder to cry on...
an Auntie... who is loyal to this niece of strange circumstances until the very end...

if the days seem too hard
and the voices shout too loud
if the pain is too much
and you feel like ripping your feelings out
if the sun seems not to shine
and the world is stopping and going out of control
if your heart is breaking
and your tears aren't waning
if your mind is beating your soul
and your eyes can't contain any more of Life's practical little jokes..........

it's ok

remember that this is what we have
remember that what is inside is never wrong
as long as your heart is pure
boys and plants and cars mean nothing
the past is the PAST
it cannot be revoked
cannot be changed
and this is ok
for we are who we are
a little bit of everything that we touch becomes a part of us
and if the demons of past tempt your mind to the brink of insanity
close your eyes and dream of a FUTURE
of true love of life without boundaries of a perfect day
for, dear beauty,
there WILL be perfect days for you again
there WILL be times of innocence and sheer joy again
there WILL be sunshine that doesn't cloud over again
and there WILL be a day when you WILL love yourself as much as you are loved by
  others…

sleep well... little princess

LD
Many many clouds
but still the sun shines through
very little left
for me to say to you
wise beyond your years
not frightened of your fears
