I know that I gave it to you,
I gave it without reservation,
I gave it to you fully
Without an ounce of hesitation.
I was so proud of the gift I had given you,
And I know you cherished it every day,
It was a gift I promised you’d have forever,
Even long after I faded away.
You see, there is now a problem,
That I hope you can understand,
I need to ask for my gift back,
As I wish to give it to another man.
He deserves it so many ways,
But I don’t have it to give,
You see, I promised that he could have it
for as long as we both shall live.
You and me, we never really made that vow,
They were just youthful dreams.,
So please tell me I can have it now
And understand how much it means.
It’s really hard to ask for it back and it’s tearing me apart,
But I have to move on my first true love,
So I am asking you know,
Can I please have back my heart?

| A great read, thank you. I think we always leave a portion of our heart behind with every person we meet only more so when we continue our journey without someone who has truly touched our heart. |
