The Wrath of Athena

Contributed by keilantra on Wednesday, 1st November 2006 @ 09:30:20 PM in AEST
Topic: fictional

______________________________

Medusa wasn’t always like this –
(Athena was just one hell
of a jealous woman,
because mommy never taught her how to share)

Poseidon loved Medusa, you know
And he tried to give her the sea, but
she didn’t know how to swim and he
didn’t want to be the one to watch her drown.

So he tried give her a child instead-
On the floor of Athena’s temple
…sweet love…
But she was only mortal and didn’t have the power
To say ‘no’,
Yet it was still her fault and she was left
To face the wrath of Athena
Alone.

Can you tell that even goddesses deal badly
With rejection?

Poseidon vowed to never to love a mortal again.

What an excellent economy of language expressing a tresure trove of history and imagings.

A wonderfilled mythic lesson to humanize that which can turn one to stone with a glance.

Kudos

SNAKES!!! SNAKES ON THE PLANE!!!!!

(sorry, it's just your hair......)

amusing vignette about betrayal and revenge on a deity's scale (no pun intended), yet the suffering is mortal, the loss of the true human self. Compelling read.

(*pauses to giggle at Spike's outburst first, then proceeds*)

I loved your opening line here. It provides, immediately, a look (perhaps) into the underlying thought processes that brought this piece to life. I also adore that you offered no conclusion as to whether is was a good thing or a not-so-good thing that She had was no longer the same. The reader is left to draw their own conclusion. I'd suggest, however, that they do so only by listening closely to the words She offers - as turning a discerning eye upon her would be not only unfair but clearly ill-advised given her ability to change them if they did.

Nice work, Kie -
