They Say Nothing

My heart sinks lower
It plummets
I have yet to talk to you
I want to, but you aren’t here
I want to look into your eyes
I want to you regret
I don’t want you to hurt
But I don’t want me to hurt either
It may be cruel of me
To think such things
But I refuse to do nothing
Maybe I’m taking it out of proportion
Or maybe you aren’t taking it at all
What did I see in you?
The pain dulls everything
It washes barriers away
Except my own
I see you for what you really are
What are you?
Are you human?
That’s what your appearance says
But in your heart, are you?
I can’t tell
I can’t read it like a book
The pages are wet and dripping
From water that you poured on them
You are washing everything away
The words smear together
They say the same thing
They say nothing.
