This child had to grow up fast,
The reasons are very clear,
Her parents were quite mature,
When this beauty did appear,
Her parents taught her many things,
To cook, to clean, to be wary,
So that if ever tragedy came forth,
She would not find things so scary,
We taught her all the facts of life,
Of death , illness and tears,
We taught her to be confident,
And to face up to all her fears,
This child lost her father when she was just 14,
She was strong and showed no fear,
And she helped her mum to cope as well,
What a blessing she was near,
She showed such strength and fortitude,
Even though she was herself in sorrow,
And though life had been a cross to bear,
She still had hope in her tomorrows,
So now she is a sweet seventeen,
Quite a tomboy she can be,
But when she is in a lady like phase,
The woman I can see,
So this child is old beyond her years,
From her I have been taught a lesson,
We can overcome almost anything,
My Jennie she was my blessing.

I too have been blessed with a step daughter that has been my strength and me hers. What a wonderful exchange it is and how enriched my life has been because of her. I understand every word of your write and echo it in my heart for my daughter. A wonderful and touching write. |
