Gorilla My Dreams

Contributed by yangdantien on Tuesday, 31st October 2006 @ 11:48:12 AM in AEST
Topic: abstract

Half- awake dreaming, shifting,
scrambling to scale a sheer incline,
a woman leads then disappears over the top of the ledge.
At first I was daunted, the effect of climbing
felt like wading through honey
but a renewed effort to throw leg over, scramble
in order to stand.
Now upon a long flat plateau
where a garden has been established
with an intimate café.

My sight is blurred from sweat
or half aware focus,
I sought the woman who led me here.
She had taken a seat at a table and began to draw
on parchment with what looked like sticks of coal.
I strained to catch her attention
moving toward her very slowly and tired
shifting to notice all around are giant mountain idols.

I could make out their forms
some resembled faces I knew so familiar
and yet it hit me,
these were the faces of the Gods.
There were many
some I did not recognize
There was Buddha in several forms such as the
laughing big bellied Buddha holding up the world.
There was Moses with the Ten Commandments.
In front Jesus on the cross, Mother Mary glowing Holy Infant,
Zeus and Neptune, Shiva and Ganesha, Isis and Horus
as I looked around I noticed many others
with people sitting in this Garden of repose.

Some are drawing, writing, singing,
still others just juggled.
I too had pad, pen and a table reserved.
I waved to the leading lady in gratitude.
I picked up the quill and looked up
feeling the muse come to my hearts lips
when startled the statues were moving.
There was a subtle glow as the sun set
a warmth from the eyes.
I keen in a rush to jot
in fleeting glances
it was clear they are interacting
out of phase at different speeds.

Seconds become an eternity
as I began to hear their whispers,
my eyes flutter open,
through the earths crust and tears
to gorilla punch my chest, bellow
and grunt upon this page,
the missing feeling supplied,
through the faith of another's sight as
an atheists prayer from the trenches of life.

A vivid picture you've painted, but the closing stanza is even more impressive. Very emotive; you've got that longing down on the page. Excellent work.

Wow, another very powerful piece. Your writing is fantastic, the last stanza, gripping.
Peace, Laura
