When daylight breaks,
Tiny fragments of memory shall scatter across your pillow,
The heart is forgetful in times of pain,
Like clouds squeezing rain onto fresh-fallen snow,
Singing a name into an endless abyss,
And searching, ever searching, for the home that you miss,
What love before has known those lips?
Words never meant, inducing pain, and something more,
Breaking the soul, from outside to the core,
Heartaches by now too familiar,
That sallow feeling of loss,
Creeping in by the back door, when no one is looking,
A bolt, a burden, a cross,
And one we all must bear,
That you could carry me away,
Save my hopes, keep them for a rainy day,
Then I would love you always.
Yet never more than in this moment.
