Purgatory

Contributed by wizard on Thursday, 26th October 2006 @ 12:52:44 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

I died today by my very hand,
A welcome retreat…a chance to find
A new hell in which to reside.

My life did not flash before my eyes,
I see a tunnel, though no light.
I hear no angels singing; only ribbing laughter.
Not a loved one in sight…I knew they were all wrong.
Nothing before me but a narrow walkway, engulfed in flames.

One step onto this burning path,
This burden not a soul should bear.
A lifetime of pain and half truths upon my shoulders
Left there for me to carry for yet another eternity.

The end, forever out of reach.

My tears behind me, dancing
Waiting for more companions
My heart before me, whispers…
“Stop your chase; I’ve not a beat left”

A detour would be a blessing,
For the unknown road would surely be a safer one,
Yet it seems this one can not be shaken.

Two steps onto this scorching path,
Hands blister as I haltingly reach out,
Trying to embrace the darkness, to no avail.

Only lonely memories reside here,
Not a friend or foe to be found.
Turning back may be an option
Though, would anything really change?

Three steps onto this flaming path
No reason to turn back now,
For surely my fate is sealed...

sigh...didn't someone once say all our Purgatories are self induced? I think we're supposed to learn a lesson or something. I wish I could answer that.
Great emotive imagery here, you put the reader right there in your shoes, hot tho they may be.

This is intensely personal and passionate...you really did a great job here Paul. Each line is so distraught with anguish and despair, and wonderfully descriptive. I enjoyed this piece quite a bit. The title is well suited too.

Paul~
Such an emotionally filled write you have penned here my dear friend. Expressed so well and through each line the reader can feel anguish, heartache and despair~
One wonders does the pain subside? Yes my dear friend in time your wounds will heal and your journey through life will continue with new stepping stones~
A very sad write penned so well.
May the heavenly angels wrap their wings around you and your beautiful heart my dear friend so that no one can ever hurt or pain your heart ever again.
love always,
sue m
