Twenty years spent in a prison cell
For a crime never committed.
Twenty years locked away, caged,
A political prisoner, instead of a criminal
Caged simply to silence his voice.
A voice of his people
A voice that cried out against injustice
Who now cries out for him?
Twenty years spent in a prison cell.
His crime? Seeking a better life!
Trying to gain for his people
What has for centuries been denied.
Yet, is a given right to others in this nation.
Twenty years spent caged like an animal.
Imprisoned by a government that is
Known to be a champion
Of human rights in other lands.
Yet on its own soil, it commits the
same barbaric acts it protests.
Keeping a man in a cage
To silence his voice for twenty years.

| wow....i thought of leonard peltier wintin your first lines here..... i have always wondered why, such the injustice, this has Always angered me what they did to him, im so happy you wrote this excellent poem so others may know too, huggs always nessa |
