A bird
Sits on my fire-escape balcony
Perched like a gargoyle watching her colony
Wing span extended
A flaunt of her talents
A beak distinct
Her yellow meets a rainbow of feathers
A stone
Weathered
Surface pounded by erosion
Eaten away by the rain
Chipped and broken
Thrown to the bottom of the muddy lake
Once a pebble
Skidding along the surface of the ocean
On the fifth hop, it dropped
To the depths of forbidden emotions
It rests amongst the weeds that float back and forth
Hidden in the dirt which bubbles with plate tectonic force
A devotion to the contribution of the earth
A rose
Red and luscious
With a stem so bold and firm
As the pellets join a circle to the open center
Where the nature mates to produce its sour nectar
Has become dislodged by the lack of sustained water
The lack of solar power
A regenerative disorder
A gem of a flower
The red beauty is devoured
By selfishness
Days without hours
Instead of struggling
It hides and cowers

Well, M, your metaphors are magnificent but there
is much hiding amongst the words methinks ..
The last stanza is ESPECIALLY interesting .. and
thought provoking as well. It speaks of such a bitter
sweet unending pain ... one that creates a sad and
torturous surrender ... very melancholic indeed.
Your words, as always, are acutely powerful.

Oooh, I definitely agree with Roxie - thought-provoking write!
First stanza's my favourite, though I can't exactly explain why. O_o
Thankies for sharing, though. :)
Kat.
