To tell my tale, where to begin?
Tiny pinpricks on my skin,
Biting kisses from the tip
Of needles birthing on their trip
Bumps of colour, dark and bright
Coalescing in the light
My skin was once a virgin land,
Unmarked by the artist’s hand
Now the map is being drawn
The landscape being called upon,
In partnership with the pen
To illustrate the blank terrain
See cupid traced above my heart,
Angel’s wings in pectoral flight
A rose tattoo, shaped by thorns
Complex symbols newly born
Tribal motifs encircle arms
While devilled vixens strut their charms,
Down muscled thighs and private trails
Where ancient serpents eat their tails
The eyes are windows to the soul,
The voice resounds like thunder’s roll
Gestures arc like fluttering birds
But a picture paints a thousand words
Where images are stained and glossed,
Speaking in a language lost
An ancient memory, full of ghosts
My skin the canvas for these hosts
To close this tale, how to end?
The ink invites you to transcend
Here the abstract, there the plain,
Aspects sacred and profane
The body and mind, made whole,
To house the illustrated soul.

Spike!!! Damn, man... this is fabulous! It's mesmerizing, really. Fluid and flawless and so insanely artistic that my first read (first of many) was this fabulous sort of confused attempt to try to decide (I kept changing my mind, see) whether to simply enjoy the outcome or pay attention to the skill employed to arrive at it. In the end I did both... alternating between the two in subsequent reads and finding myself unable to decide which impressed me more.
(I am so glad I hit your page... I've been aching to find something that gets me all fired up!)
AND... you're not inked? Seriously? And you laid this down? Nailed it completely at that! Boy, you're good. Me... yeh... I've got one. But, I'm thoroughly convinced that there is no way I could have done it justice in the way you have here. And while I can't speak for many of them, I am inclined to suggest that there is a tattoo artist (and artist is the right word really) on the mainland just across from Jekyll Island that would, I'm certain, be seriously honored to have this hanging on the wall above his table.
Ink or not, my friend... yours is an illustrated soul.
Applauding what you've done here,
~Snemmy

My goodness. That really is good. And as the earlier poster said, I know a tattooist who would be honoured to have this poem on his wall. And as someone who is both tattood and an illustrator, I have to say this is one of the best poems I have ever read, so unique and beautiful, it took my mind away to a wonderful place while I read. Congratulations!
Oh yeah, you should get a tattoo! It doesn't hurt that much really...
