The Lover Diaries 1784

Contributed by doug on Sunday, 15th October 2006 @ 10:11:23 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

April , 15 , 1784
~ Elizabeth Warner ~

I fear he does not understand
how my eyes do worship him
how my heart does long for him
my young and lonely heart

Today the silence was to deep
this heartache so unbearable
Am I so very terrible
he would disregard my love
***

~ Richard Thomas~

She was so beautiful today
I could not bear to look her way
nor calculate the words to say
damn my coward heart

I spied her as she walked alone
a queen of hearts without a throne
I called her name but she was gone
and with her light and air
***

~ Elizabeth Warner ~
April , 16 , 1784

I walked alone yesterday
and heard a single evening lark
sing with such a broken heart
I cried upon the melody

But then I heard a different tune
a deathly voice did call my name
and put the meadowlark to shame
with its dark lament
***

~ Richard Thomas ~

Without her ears ; what use a voice
what use a hand without her touch
this world could hold no valid point
but to serve at her command

I shall go at morning light
with a letter of my plight
and should her heart be mine by night
then mine is spared the dagger
***

~ Elizabeth Warner ~
April , 17 , 1784

The strangest thing occurred today
beneath the rays of morning light
along he came and holding tight
a letter in a trembling hand

He stared at me and moments passed
eternitys for fragile hearts
then whispering , I must depart
he turned and walked away

It was the strangest thing
It felt like tragedy
perhaps it would have been
had I not yelled
please don't leave
I love you more than life

The End

I liked it. Of course I'm curious what he would have done. Would he have used the dagger if she had not spoken? Or would he give up or try to give her the letter again?

Nice work here. Unique presentation, interesting structure and fabulous story telling. Truth be told, I'm a sucker for any tale of long ago lovers. This, though, merits more than just a casual read or brief pondering. You had me rapt by the time the date changed the first time... and will hold my attention for some time. I will be back here again from time to time, I believe.

Wonderful!
