You rarely say that I look nice,
your gaze can be as cold as ice,
you just look at me and stare,
tell me you dont like my hair,
you tell me I dont have any taste,
point out blemishes on my face,
tell me that my teeth arn't white,
taunt, me say, I look a fright,
you tell me I have a big nose,
say my shoes dont match my clothes,
when I put new clothes on,
you say, take them off they look all wrong,
some days when good I feel,
you tell me that im looking ill,
you really dont have any compassion,
you say my clothes are out of fashion,
Your always so scrutinizing,
always there criticizing,
you have rare days, say I look good,
some days I do, so you should..
You make my days so overcast,
please be kind my looking glass,
other wise your be sacked,
you might find your glass all CRACKED!!!

Oh Lillyjane I felt your woe,
.I disagree for I do know,
Your looking glass it is wrong,
Clouded with dust for far to long,
Your beauty shines so very bright,
I have seen a picture, so I am right,
Let others tell the truth its clear,
That mirror lies , I tell you dear,
Hiya , Yes I know exactly how you feel, but you know something Lilllyjane, I will be able to tell you myself in less than a weeks time. Self hatred is in all of us, but our beauty is there for others to see, and our inner beauty is there always. See you soon. Sue x |

Oh I also believe that your looking glass has been filled with fogfor far to long. For I to have seen your picture and there is nothing wrong there. It has always astounded me how young ladies/ women always seem to find something wrong with the way they appear. When we are all just individuals here unless you’re a twin and even then there is something different. Please believe that your inner beauty will always shine through. May you find the peace and joy with in your heart so you may glow so ever bright.

People travel the world looking for beautiful beaches, sights and other things to inspire them.
Sometimes they overlook what is there staring them in the face everyday.
Perhaps it is true that familiarity breeds contempt but it should not be so.

A brilliant write Lillyjane, but remember it's all the things you tell yourself really, the mirror shows your real beauty but you never believe it! A fantastic poem that captures how so many people feel but if only they knew the truth.xx |

What you've explained in this poem is very much like what the girlfriends I've had have said their mothers were like... Not sure if that's the point here - I hope it isn't partners for I hope I've encouraged them...
Nice write and the frustration really comes through!

Lilly jane, Yeah I do think at one point in time we all can relate to these feelings. It is hard to love yourself sometimes, but it is so important to do so. Look in that mirror and say "Damn, I am a woman, and I am beautiful.".....because you are.
You wrote this well and made it not just about you, but all, who have looked in that mirror and the face that looks back shows disappoint. Love yourself.
Peace, Laura |

I had my ex sit across the table from me and say "Look at you...who would want you?" I had been a faithful wife for 22 years. I went out and had a wonderful relationship with a younger man and left my husband...never to look back. Verbal abuse...can kill your self esteem..no woman deserves to be treated that way. Thanks for this poem...it reminds me just how wonderful I am. |
