PRAYER OF THE HERETICS

Contributed by Matthew on Thursday, 12th October 2006 @ 05:35:03 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

Death has left me with this terrible inheritance,
My mind forbidden with a mark of Cain,
To smolder in silence and wait for our reign-
Asking for absolution from an iron hand,
Like praying for forgiveness from the fates
A cruel mistress to control our hearts,
And so we recline in suffering, only to wait.

For the worst scourge grows from the mind,
A true kingship earned by thorny crown,
These thoughts they use to tear us down-
Each of us shuddering alone and solitary,
These laws of our hearts cannot be fought
But we cannot overcome their means,
They cannot understand what it was we sought.

And now our castles sit in the ruinous quiet,
Empty where once our banners flew fair,
Our passions stripped and walls made bare-
But my soul languishes in that dungeon sweet,
Oh host of heavens no chain can hold my heart
Yet I am afraid of what the future holds,
Free I entered this world, but free will I part?

How sick their jealousy to suck out my life,
But brutal the passions flowing in my mind,
Their audacity to condemn my truth I did find-
To crush us under these heavy burdens they
Will to crush out the prophecy of our soul,
But they cannot escape what they have sought,
But lo, in the west, the thunder rolls.

This is brilliant, nothing more and nothing less...Martin Luther would be proud.

Great from the first line
to the last. The best I've
read so far tonight and I've
read quite a few.
Truly , Doug

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
