''B'' man

Hi. My name is Ashley Rene Hendrix. I am currently 16 years old. My birthday is on Halloween and I have red hair. (people call me pumkin and a witch.) That's all you'll here about me here. You see, my story is about me. It's my friend. I can honestly say I am a typical teenage girl with typical drama (I try to stay away from as best as possible). But here's the story I want to tell the world.
I have a friend. His name is Brittan Breaux. We aren't close, but under certain curmstances, we kinda were forced to at least talk. And yes we like the same music. We are similar in many ways, but we're not good friends. This story isn't about him also. It's about his little brother, Brayden. Brayden is currently 5 years old. He has a twin brother, Dylan. And an older brother, Zach, who is in the second grade. He has a wonderful mom, Mrs. Andrea, and dad, Mr. Scott, and great-grandmother, we call Granny. All of these are good things .... there's one bad .. but it's big enough to conquer him, if he would let. He has brain tumors. "Had" I should say.
About a week after his second birthday, March 7, 2003, he was diagnosed with a golf ball size mass at the back of his brain. This mass was an Ependymoma, a malignant brain tumor. Ependymomas arise from cells lining the passageways in the brain that produce and store the cerebrospinal fluid or CSF. (CSF is a fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord.) These tumors are classified as either supratentorial (in the top part of the head) or infratentorial (in the back of the head). In children, the majority of ependymomas occur as infratentorial tumors arising in or around the fluid-filled fourth ventricle. Ependymomas represent approximately six percent of brain tumors in children. The majority of patients are diagnosed before the age of five years. One day he was running around and playing with his twin brother, the next he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. AT TWO YEARS OLD!!! Can you just imagine his fight?! The whole family and friends took it hard.
Dr. Coulan performed sugery on March 12th and was able to get 99% of the tumor. He recovered well and was home a week later. After a couple months of therapy, B was able to regain the minor abilities he had lost. Then, he was "sentanced" to 33 treatments of conformal radiation therapy to "zap" the rest of the tumor. After 6 weeks of radiation, B was finished on May 21, 2003, Mrs. Andrea's birthday. (what a present for her!) Over the next year and a half, B was got a MRI every 3-4 months. He grew up along his frisky brother Dylan. Until December 27, 2004, B was free! Unfortunatly, this MRI showed signs of regrowth of the tumor at the base of the brain. He underwent surgery once again on January 8th by Dr. Coulan again. Brayden once again recovered remarkably. He never wanted pain medicine and wanted to be out of bed playing the day after surgery. Amazingly, he was able to walk just two days after his most recent surgery. One week after his surgery he was home. It was decided to scan Brayden at two month intervals to monitor for regrowth.
