Taking Lucas to a coffee house

I can laugh at myself
dreaming of a few feet
of years wearing away the freedom
leaving a man
still my boy
here in lounge chairs
in a coffee house
debating the trivial things
enjoying the tennis ball of ideas
when I like who I am
But I look across
without the blindfold of hope
A four year old
enjoying his biscuit and sugar drink
bubbles amuse him
and I pull a face
he laughs
I suppose I’ll settle for this
and love his freedom
hoping I’ll still like who I am
when he’s old enough to understand
and debate the trivial things…

I loved your write. I was picturing the whole scene in my mind. I have a four year old myself. You'll have to share this, with your son, when he's a wee bit older. Splendid read.
Thanks for sharing.

Aye, this is a meaningful one. I like the perspective that results from the setting and situation. Having done much more or less rueful pondering at coffee houses myself, it strikes a familiar chord.
Well done, well done.
