As Sun Ripples Mount The Whitewashed Wall

As sun ripples mount the white washed wall
of the garage at the bottom of the garden,
the sun-yellow butterfly came to find food.
As the raindrops pierced the screen of silence
on the glass roof of the veranda,
the red crested warbler whistled its song.
As the moonbeams slid from their golden throne
to the modest seat of the lawn,
the dust tawny owl spied on its prey.
As the day broke over the heather crowned hills
of the surrounding countryside,
a grey green tank invaded the scene.
As sun ripples mount the white washed wall
of that building that stands half demolished,
the small children were playing at war.
