Within A Tiny Blind Circle

Contributed by steeleyes on Friday, 6th October 2006 @ 12:17:09 PM in AEST
Topic: political

Our circle is deaf at its edge
we hold the inner core intact
censoring messages we allow
choosing signals to attack

With both hands covering ears
we let in only that which fits
maintaining our small circle
and eyes reduced to slits

Believing what the big guys say
in our republican elites
holding tight to our small circle
to think may bring defeat

No room for speculation
except in limited realm
our mouths, eyes and ears closed
in case of overwhelm

Protecting our tiny circle
is a task for night and day
self-censorship at every step
we stand on feet of clay

Republican Party in tight spot over sexual allegations
Washington, Oct 05

Facing intense scrutiny in the aftermath of the scandal involving one of its members of the Congress, the Republican Party is literally scrambling to bail itself out of an extremely tight spot some four weeks to go for an election to the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The Speaker came under further pressure after former chief of staff to Mark Foley asserted that Hastert's top aides were brought to attention of Foley's behaviour toward young pages in the House of Representatives and at least one law maker has canceled a campaign appearance with Hastert insisting on knowing all the details.

Making matters worse for Hastert is that another senior Republican in the House, the majority whip Roy Blunt has indirectly criticised the Speaker saying that he would have handled matters differently.

'I think I could have given some good advice here, which is you have to be curious, you have to ask all the questions you can think of,' Blunt said.

'You absolutely can't decide not to look into activities because one individual's parents don't want you to.'

The 52-year-old Foley resigned last Friday after confronted with several explicit e-mails he had sent to teenage male pages.

Your poem was very well written and for a change I completely agree with you. I read a very interesting article in the Washington Post that stated that if Foley was straight and was chasing after young girls the political fallout would be much less threatening. The fact that he is a gay man chasing young boys puts the Republican party in a very bad light because the right wing of the party continously states how immoral and heinous homosexuality is. It is a sad commentary that the Republican party thinks molesting young girls is less wrong than molesting young boys. Anyway, I really liked what you wrote even though we are complete opposites on most other political topics.
